Two Generations: Paul Caponigro and John Paul Caponigro

On July 26, Maine Media Workshops welcomes the community to the opening of an exhibition of work from one of Maine’s preeminent artistic families. The show “Two Generations” brings together the work of both Paul Caponigro and his son John Paul Caponigro in a powerful display of work from two master printers.
The exhibition is part of a weekend event featuring a one-day workshop Sunday lead by the two artists. Paul, a venerable figure in classic black & white photography, and John Paul, a pioneer in digital imaging, open their studios to workshop participants for a day of conversation and inspiration.
Paul Caponigro is renowned as one of America’s most significant master photographers. Acclaimed for his spiritually moving images, he approaches nature receptively, preferring to utilize an intuitive focus rather than merely arranging or recording forms and surface details. Paul has exhibited and taught throughout the United States and abroad. Recipient of two Guggenheim fellowships and three National Endowment for the Arts grants, Caponigro’s images will be found in most history of photography texts and contemporary art museums.
John Paul Caponigro, recent inductee to the Photoshop Hall of Fame and author of Adobe Photoshop Master Class, is an internationally renowned fine artist and authority on fine digital printing. An Epson Stylus Pro and Canon Explorer of Light, he is a contributing editor for Digital Photo Pro and Camera Arts magazines and a columnist for Photoshop User and Apple.com. A passionate teacher, he has taught at the Workshops since 1995.
“This show is actually somewhat nostalgic for me,” says John Paul Caponigro, “at the age of 19, I had my very first group exhibit at the Workshops with my father, George Tice, and Eliot Porter.”
The opening reception in Saturday, July 26 from 4 – 6PM. An artist talk follows at 7PM.
